Literature Text

Strong is my Lord Jesus' hand
And He will forever hold me.
He who gave me all He had,
Why should He ever forsake me?
Christ will ne'er abandon me,
That shall my assurance be.

Should my faint heart fear some harm,
Or my worries overcome me,
Jesus reaches out His arm,
Jesus leads the weak to vic'try.
That God's love defendeth me
That shall my assurance be.

Judgement I no longer fear -
Christ has advocated for me.
Even when temptation's near,
Christ has prayed already for me.
That my Saviour speaks for me
That shall my assurance be.

Nothing tears me from His hand!
Who can steal this comfort from me?
By this faith I'll firmly stand,
For my Lord this promise gave me:
Christ holds me eternally;
That shall my assurance be.

THIS IS NOT BY ME. (I just translated it is all.)
Original German by C.B. Garve

This is one of my favourite hymns on earth and because I love it so much and wanted people to see it, and most of said people are not perfectly versed in German, I decided to translate it. Which was not easy (because I'm usually too lazy to rhyme, and this one had a nice ababcc).

Yesterday I was feeling terrible because of temptations and problems again and (as happens often) I started wondering whether God had ditched me (He has enough reason to lol), but all day really I kept remembering the first verse of this hymn. Then in the evening I was really frustrated and I remembered it again. I looked for the hymn to read the full words, and listened to it. And I just felt assurance again.

Anyway this is for you! :tighthug: So that you can also read these very comforting words that have helped me. Though I assure you the German is way better and no doubt other people would have been better at translating.
