Literature Text

My friend,
I long to help you,
to bear your burden for you,
to comfort you in need.
My heart is aching for you,
I'm searching for a way
to help you with this heavy load,
to comfort you in pain.

But your burden is too heavy,
and it knocks me to my knees;
your pain hurts me too deeply;
my hands are helpless -
I am too weak.

Knocked to my knees -
here I remain.
My hands folded,
too weak to work -

But here is work,
here is the battlefield,
for I will fight for you
down on my knees.

For there is One
who longs to help you,
who bore your burden for you,
who comforts you in need.
His heart is aching for you,
He is the only way
to help you with this heavy load,
to comfort you in pain.

He bears your heavy burden -
I give it all to him.
I am too weak to carry it:
I bear it all to Him.
I cannot win this battle
except down on my knees
as I lay into His hands
everything
and let His strength
work through my weakness
and do what I cannot.
Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:2)

Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28)

Prayer is soooooooo important. I am realising that right now. There are many things where I have to say "the burden is too great for me" - not just my own burdens, but those of others.

Fight all your battles on your knees.

Solid, lasting missionary work is done on our knees. [link]

FYI I don't think one needs to kneel when praying (I rarely do...) but since the image of going "on one's knees" is often used as a synonym for prayer I used it here. :P
