Literature Text

If I go to church every Sunday,
pray the longest
and worship loudest
but have not love
how can it please God?

If I spend my days serving,
giving to the poor,
and feeding orphans
but have not love
what do they get from it?

If I preach the word of God,
evangelise to strangers
and teach the faith
but have not love
why should they believe?

What is speaking in tongues
and walking through fires
if in the end
they don't see Christ,
if in the end
they see only rules,
a cold institution,
religion?

Faith, it healed us
Hope, it bears us
Love is the centre
but WHERE have we put it?
"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." - 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

I really seriously think that love is very often missing.
How often do we talk about homosexuality being wrong, talk about abortion being nasty, and (in Switzerland) whine about minarets etc? How often do we actually go out and live among such people (as JESUS did!!!!) and get to know them and love them?

I don't believe mission is about going on a quick evangelisation and talking to random passers-by on the street with a gang of others before returning back to "normal life". I believe that mission means going out to non-Christians and living among them (instead of just sticking to Christian friends), getting to know them and love them because THAT is what Jesus did and THAT is where they will see and be able to realise that Jesus loves them.

I know loads of non-Christians, and the problems most of them have is with unloving, unChristian Christians. And I'm certain God has a problem with that as well.
